DURABLE DESIGN

HANDLES

Whether you want metal or wood, Hardwater Hardware handles are made to your specifications.  Many of my spears feature beautifully crafted hardwood handles. Snakewood, Bocote, Cocobolo (Mexican Rosewood), Leopard wood, Bubinga, Claro Walnut Burl, Camphor Burl, and Birdseye Maple are examples of woods that I have previously used.  I am always open to using new types of wood.

METAL

The tines on my spears are made with hardened and spring-tempered tool steel to increase durability. The handle shafts are tubular 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, which makes the handle both lighter and stiffer than 1/2 inch steel.

FINISH

When external temperatures exceed 60 degrees, Duracoat firearm finish is generally used.  When below 60, lacquer is used.  (Duracoat is significantly tougher, but much more difficult to touch up as needed.)  One other finish that can be used is DuraBlue, from Duracoat.  (DuraBlue is a premium finish which includes a $50 surcharge and can only be applied above 60 degrees.)

Generally made to 63 inches over all length, I make 9 tined heavyweight spears (8.5 lbs) and 7 tined heavyweight (8 lbs), standard weight (6.5 lbs), and lightweight (4.25 lbs, 55 inches) spears, all to your specification.

This unique design and craftsmanship puts most of the weight up front where it is needed for straight flight in deep water, making for an effective, durable, and eye-catching spear.

Good Days

Some Days Are Better Than Others

"I can't say enough about how Dave treats his customers. From the initial ordering process to after receiving my spear, Dave made sure I was informed and happy with the spear. I was hoping to have my spear before the end of the season and Dave was able to get the spear finished and in my hands a week before I was even expecting to see it."

ABOUT US

ABOUT

From growing up in northern Michigan to residing in rural Montana, I've been an avid outdoorsman all of my life.

I started spearing over 50 years ago on the inland lakes and bays around Harbor Springs, Michigan.  I used many poorly designed spears back then and grudgingly lived with the results. It was this poor spear performance that motivated me to develop the Hardwater Hardware line of spears available today.

These spears balance beauty and functionality, and I  tailor that design in a way that I hope will help you enjoy this sport as much as I do.
